Barrel Mountaineering is named in honor of Barry "Barrel"
Bishop, who summitted Mount Everest in 1963 with the first American
ascent of the world's highest peak. Barry's many other pioneering
climbs included the first ascent of Ama Dablam (Nepal) in 1961, and
the first ascent of Denali's West Buttress in 1951. In 1994, Brent
Bishop followed in his father's footsteps and summitted Mount Everest
(8848m/29,028ft). The following year, Brent stood atop Lhotse (8511m/27,923ft)
and in all has successfully guided six of the "Seven Summits."
More importantly, Brent has orchestrated the removal of over 20,000
pounds of garbage off of Mount Everest.
Barrel celebrates mountaineering's rich heritage, while promoting
the future of climbing, backpacking, telemark skiing, and the outdoor
lifestyle. Barrel Mountaineering, the best gear, genuine expertise,
no attitude. |
